In plain words
If you ask which is the cheapest thing in the world, it is man alone! Merely studying great, great learning is no great feat; it is not greatness either. Being in high, high positions is no great worth. Only when he has great virtues does a man have worth. Even in the way he spreads his virtues to others, he must make his time holy. So man's worth rests on his virtue. But it does not rest on wealth, gold, possessions and vehicles, nor on positions of power. These are fleeting. While one is in power, everyone stands with folded hands. Once one steps down from power, everyone throws up their hands. How long does this power last? The very bodies we have taken on are not Satya for us; they are not eternal. How long will the chair we sit in last? For those who scramble after these chairs, this is a great disease. The welfare of the country, the purity of people, their welfare and wellbeing: in Bhārata there is coming to be no one to give them a thought.
On the day we root out this Ahaṅkāra and selfishness, and each of us, becoming a guardian, takes the vow to reach a state where the country is protected through himself, on that very day there will be room for faith in God to grow in our Bhārata. Embodiments of Prema! Above all, Ahaṅkāra, envy, selfishness: on the day we drive away these three demons, on that very day humanness will show itself; it will blossom. As long as these remain in us, they keep our humanness hidden to some extent. Among all creatures, a human birth is hard to win. Among these eighty lakh kinds of living beings, we say in many ways that human birth is sacred. But we do not show it. On the day you prove by your virtues, “I am a human being”, on that very day the principle of the Ātma, which is Divinity, will surely bless you. So, holding the Paramātma in our thoughts with a sacred tongue, bringing peace to others with words that do them good, by teaching and by spreading the message, we must make our lives worthwhile: this is My hope, and with My blessing I bring My discourse to a close.
