In plain words
What awareness wells up in us! Many people, in these gatherings, when thousands come together: what kind of Name should be said? What kind of kīrtana should be done? This they do not know at all. A man can say only what he himself likes; he cannot say what others like. If he wants to sing as he likes, he may sing alone in a room. But in a gathering he must use only the Name that he can offer rightly to others, take up himself and enjoy. In community bhajans there are some things we have to adjust in many ways.
While doing kīrtana we may do ālāpanas at length. But in community bhajans these ālāpanas are of no use at all. So when we wish to turn this kīrtana into saṅkīrtana, only one Name should be heard there. Today, all over the world, nāma-saṅkīrtana. They have called it Akhaṇḍa Bhajan. It did not come about for the sake of one individual. It does not concern only one country. It does not concern merely one society. It concerns the whole world. Every sound we make merges in electric waves. All these electric waves go on spreading everywhere. It covers the whole world. Thereby the atmosphere becomes holy. By our taking in that very atmosphere, our heart too becomes pure. This nāma-saṅkīrtana is a bond of the Ātma, a bond of giving and receiving. It must be one of mutual dependence. It must be an inseparable bond. Whatever the bhāva in which you utter it, in that very bhāva the bhāvas of those who follow it must also stay, in that same holy state. We must also think about the root cause of our life. Whatever sound we utter, just such sound waves merge in the air. They themselves join, as electric waves, in the place called ether. Even when a man dies, these sounds do not change in the least. So lasting, so eternal, so real are these waves. Today, wherever you look, the atmosphere is filled with evil sounds. That is why evil feelings are growing. Through evil feelings evil deeds are growing. Man means nothing but a form made of conduct. Only when conduct is right does humanity keep developing rightly. So by the waves of whatever sound we make, the whole world is shaped into a form of peace.
