Passage 6

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

This is the renunciation the tongue teaches. It lives gently and patiently among thirty-two hard teeth. It stays watchful. It is not good to speak impure words with such a sacred tongue. If we set the tongue on the right path, we can attain God. ‘Remembrance is the means of crossing over.’ We must make the Name of God dance on our tongue. Every human being must use words with the greatest care. How must we use them? We must speak only the truth. We must not use harsh words. We must use pure words. Not only that: there are four sins the tongue commits. Speaking Asatya, carrying tales, reviling others and talking too much. If we curb these four, we have as good as made our tongue pure! So we must keep this tongue from entering the impure path and lead it into the pure path. In this Kali age, the one meaningful, divine, glorious and sacred path is nāmasmaraṇa alone! We must treasure in our heart the mother's Prema that brought up her son, raised him and taught him good saṃskāras, a good name and good manners. One who has drifted away from a mother's Prema can attain no other Prema.

Begin with ‘Koham’ and end with ‘Soham’

Puṇḍarīka kept up the vow of eating only after his parents had eaten and rested. Wishing to test Puṇḍarīka's Prema for his mother, Pāṇḍuraṅga came in disguise: ‘Puṇḍarīka! Look at Me,’ He said. Then Puṇḍarīka replied, ‘I am looking at my mother.’ Meanwhile Puṇḍarīka's guru came and said, ‘When God is giving you darśan there, it is not right to answer that you are looking at your mother.’ ‘For me, God comes only after my mother,’ Puṇḍarīka replied. ‘Will you not look at Me even once! Will you not try to see Me?’ asked Pāṇḍuraṅga.
