In plain words
So enter the temple of my heart. I have no need of these temples.” When she said ‘Go, O mind, to the bank of the Gaṅgā and the Yamunā’, she was not telling her mind to go to Prayāga. She told it to go to the bank of the Gaṅgā and the Yamunā. ‘Go and reach the place between the brows, O mind’: so she urged her mind. What is the way like? ‘The water of the Gaṅgā and the Yamunā is pure, the body grows cool; go, O mind, to the Gaṅgā’: and what is it like there? Very pure, she says. It is utterly serene, she says. The inner meaning of it is the prayer that He enter that serene, pure heart. Look at our heart today: it is full of impurity. Look at the mind: it smoulders with unrest, it rots, it is falling apart. How will God agree to enter a heart where unrest and impurity dwell? So whatever hardships come, whatever joys come, we must come to experience them all as God’s vibhūtis. What is vibhūti yoga? To one who has full faith that ‘all is God’s vibhūti’, the bad too is God’s prasāda, and the good too is God’s prasāda! Whatever He gives is vibhūti prasāda! When you are well, Mother serves you every kind of delicacy and sweet rice. If your stomach is upset and you have a fever, she puts you on a diet. If, because Mother keeps you on a diet at home, you go to the doctor, he gives you bitter medicine to bring the fever down. That doctor has no hatred at all for you. He bears you no envy. He gave you that bitter medicine only to cure your illness. What is a doctor? ‘The physician is Nārāyaṇa, Hari.’ This healing is filled with the principle of Nārāyaṇa. So, as you sink in the disease of ignorance, He has to punish you with certain weapons of wisdom. Just because He punishes you, you must not think it is hatred of you, or anger with you, or dislike of you. It is out of grace that He shows anger. A pain arose in the stomach. Unable to bear the pain, he went to the doctor. The doctor decided that an operation must be done at once. He took up a knife. He cut open the belly. He took out the fault that was inside. If you want to be rid of the pain that arose in your stomach, must you bear the pain the doctor gives you, or not?
