In plain words
‘I have no money, but I want 100 acres of land,’ he said. ‘My dear man! In our country you will not find the land you want anywhere. If you go to Nepal and ask the king there, you may get it,’ the other man replied. He went to Nepal, went to the king and said, ‘I want land.’ ‘How much do you want?’ the king asked. ‘I want at least 100 acres,’ he said. ‘My dear man! Not just 100 acres: however much land you can go round tomorrow, from six in the morning until six in the evening, that much land I will give you,’ said the king. Aha! ‘What luck!’ he thought, poor man! Reasoning that if he walked he would get less, and if he ran he would get more land, he began running at six in the morning. He ran and ran until evening, and worn out, with fifteen minutes still left, he was struck by pain in his heart. The king came. ‘My dear man! You came wanting hundreds of acres of land. But now all you need is six feet,’ he said. We need not go running about for these six feet. That will fall to our lot. So we get just as much as is our lot! We must do our duty. Lay the burden on God and regard everything as God's own work. Unlooked-for joys and unlooked-for good fortune will come your way. One who acts relying on God enjoys happiness and Śānti all his life.
As near as you are to yourself, so near is God to you
In some situations people disobey even God's command, but the world they do fear. In this way they become slaves to the senses, but to the divinity that is beyond the senses they do not bow their heads in the least. The reason is that man thinks the senses alone are what matter most in life. Wanting this to be told not by Himself but by Bhīṣma, Kṛṣṇa took Dharmaja to Bhīṣma.
