Passage 3

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

But where does the energy this atom has come from? This itself is the root energy. However many times substances change, the root energy does not change. It stays eternally real. This is a silver tumbler. Now, we can later have this silver tumbler made over into a cup. After some more time we can have that cup made into a plate. After some more time we can turn that plate into a box. The tumbler became a cup. The cup became a plate, the plate became a box. But the silver did not change. The forms and names changed, but the silver, the form of the energy that is their basis, remains one and the same. So every substance we see in the world is made up of form and name. What underlies it is asti, bhāti and priya. These are most fundamental. Asti means that which is. That is, There is. That which is: that is being. All these things we see are matter. But all this matter, shaped from what is seen, exists only with form and name. Only when true existence joins it does it turn into divinity. That is why matter + being = God. Let us take two more kinds of illustration.

This is a stand, this is a chair. This is a window, this is a door. …, keeping in view its shapes and our experience of them, we call that one a window. It came to have that name. From our experience of this one and from its form, we call this a door. By the use of this one and the shape of …, we gave it the name stand. From the shape of this one and our experience of it, we say chair. But what is in all four is the one wood. So the whole world is nothing but the form of the five elements. So all trees are made of wood. All mountains are made of stone, the whole earth of clay, the whole body of flesh. But for our own use we give them many kinds of form and name. There is one root substance that is the basis of all. Though we think of research into substances and the experience of a substance as differ…, the principle that brings these two together belongs to spirituality alone. That bringing together is essential today. Here, though, there are two substances, the inert and the living. Though the root energy in them is one, the strength and capacity of these masses of atoms differ. Because of this strength and capacity they look to us like different bodies. There is copper.
