In plain words
Now, I do know the future. But I think of the future of others; the future of this I never think of. You must recognise this truth well. Kartavyaṃ yogam ucyate. I think of the duty of the moment at that moment. All these things come and they go. Every one of them in this world is Passing clouds. Coming and going. Coming and going. In between, man comes to grasp, in some measure, experiences of many kinds. We must try to recognise this experience alone. In whatever Avatāra God … : Rāma, Kṛṣṇa, Matsya, Kūrma, Varāha; all such Avatāras you have recognised only for their passing … , but every Avatāra comes for one … aim. They come to teach man the principle of Prema. O man, it is only because you have no Prema, only because your selfishness has grown, that you are caught in this world in such bondage. Only when you have these two, sacrifice and Prema, do you take shape as a humanness that is divine. A man without sacrifice simply perishes in disease. A man without Prema becomes a living corpse. That is why man's divinity is just this: Prema and sacrifice. For Prema, Prema itself is the true fruit. For Prema, Prema itself is the witness. Prema has no fear. The reason is that Prema is complete. In Prema there is no selfishness. It is because Prema is for the sake of Prema that the fruit is full. So Avatāras descend into this world to teach Prema.
The world sees the many that are in the one. But God makes us see the one that is in the many. That is why it is unity in diversity. It becomes possible to learn this true principle only through God. They have thought of the Kṛṣṇa Avatāra only as a human form at play, as an ideal figure, as a holy emperor, as the very form of the Ātma. God keeps descending to make known to the world the sacred, steady, pure, selfless principle of the devotees. We think that now and then He performs certain kinds of deeds, punishing the wicked, sustaining those on the good path and destroying Adharma. That is in your sight. God descends to make known to the world the pure, sacred, steady, selfless principle of the devotees. We think that now and then He performs certain kinds of deeds, punishing the wicked, sustaining Dharma and destroying Adharma. In your sight these are the raising up of Dharma and the destruction of Adharma, so you think; but the protection of Dharma and the destruction of Adharma are not in God. In God's sight there is no such thing as bad at all. Everything has come forth from His own will, so His resolves are sacred, are they not!
