In plain words

Know that Swami's presence is a treasure

Students! This is a sacred age. It is the age that makes humanness blossom in every way. It is the age that makes Divinity manifest. At this very age we must make the right effort to guard this sacred speech. We use words and we give promises for a moment's satisfaction, but we do not keep them in a lasting way. That is why, in the Bhagavad Gītā,

“Those people who worship Me, thinking of no other, who are ever devoted: their welfare I carry.”

“Whoever it may be, ‘ye janāḥ’, whatever people they may be, it does not matter: when he remembers Me without ceasing, I look after his yoga and kṣema,” He said. What does this yoga mean? It is the sacred opportunity, the chance, that we have earned. You can see it: every day there are thousands, even lakhs of people who come here from thousands of miles away, from many countries, spending many thousands and losing much time, and who feel Ānanda if Swami speaks just one word to them. When Swami's presence, Swami's treasure, has come to you so easily, without your spending a coin, without wasting time, without hardship to the body or any toil, how carelessly you are using it! How carelessly you are enjoying it! It is by the merit of some birth, some past lives, that you have been given this chance. You must think of that gift itself as yoga. It is not from this birth. It has come to you today as the fruit of many births. What has come to you, this is yoga. But to protect it is kṣema. You are not making the effort needed to nurture what you have been given. To protect the yoga you have been given is kṣema.

Bhakta Mīrā, Sakkubāī and all of them prayed: “Swami, we have borne so many troubles, losses, sorrows, slanders and taunts of every kind, and we have become worthy of Your grace; but keep it firmly in us.”
