Passage 1

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

The crop called Prema is beyond our power to force; nor is it easy to put one's trust in Prema; when the ego is given up, Prema springs forth: never forget this good word!

The Ahaṅkāra that says “I” and the attachment that says “mine” are the root cause of every calamity. In every country of the world there are people good and bad. There are clever people, there are learned people, and there are unlettered people too. There are people too poor to eat, and there are millionaires. Yet what dwells in all of them, equally and as their very own, is Saccidānanda. All the scriptures have described God as the embodiment of Sat, Cit and Ānanda. In every object, in every matter, in every person, in every living being, in the whole visible world, what fills it and dwells in it is this Sat-Cit-Ānanda alone. Although Saccidānanda is in every object, in things and in inert matter it is Sat and Cit that we perceive; we do not see the Ānanda. Only in living beings does this Ānanda show itself. And even this Ānanda is a passing Ānanda. In the world this Ānanda is of two kinds. The two are sādhana-janya Ānanda and svatassiddha Ānanda.

This sādhana-janya Ānanda is bound up wholly with the objects of the senses. It is born of the moment and wastes away. It has no steadiness whatever. When we are hungry, there is Ānanda while we eat.
