Passage 17

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

The day you keep this practice, this behaviour, these manners, this discipline, such a one belongs to Praśānti Nilayam wherever he is. Wherever he is, he belongs to Swami. But then:

I am not in that in which I am; in that in which you are, I am not; where you and I stand as one, there everything is, just so.

People say I and you are one: how wrong that is! I and you are we, not one. It becomes we, not one. we and we are we. When I am in you and you are in Me, we become one. So when the two, you and I, come together it becomes we; we do not become one. Guard this truth well. If you guard this truth, Swami within you and you within Swami, the whole world will be in you. Just as there is a little world in Praśānti Nilayam, as people of every country live here, so in whatever country you live, Swami is in you: enshrining these sacred feelings in your heart, going back to your parents, marrying if they wish it, caring well for your family, and developing your conduct rightly with the world outside, you will carry the sacred name you had in brahmacarya into the life of the householder, and the name you have as a householder into the spiritual life; hoping for this and blessing you, I bring My discourse to a close.
