Passage 3

In plain words

When man's mind is still and selfless, like clear water, God is seen clearly in it. But because the mind of today's man is bound up with feelings of manyness, of the world of nature, it is growing impure. Though what is everywhere is the principle of God, it cannot be reflected at all in the lake of his mind. In the principle of God, who dwells within all, there is no difference at all. The principle of God that is everywhere is present in him too, as what it reflects in him. Many people keep saying, “God is in my heart.” This is a great mistake. This is not the true principle. It is a “Satya” that only belittles God. This is a flower. Where is this flower? It is in My hand. Then My hand is big and this flower is small. If God is in me, then you are big and God is small. So it is you who are in the Paramātma; the Paramātma is not in you. When we recognise this vast Satya, divinity becomes clear to us. But today we try to experience the principle of God through narrow feelings.

That is why they said, “Conduct yourself with knowing.” They said, “Live with knowing.” How can a man who has no faith even in life have self-confidence? In one who has no self-confidence, the mind runs every way only on doubts. For one gripped by doubt, happiness and Śānti are nil. Without firm faith, a man cannot trust even himself. How can a man who cannot trust himself trust others? How can a man who cannot trust others accomplish any work in the world? Impossible. So this is the meaning: man is a being who has faith. Faith grows only when we put into practice what we believe. With it, peace and security too keep following him. So, for humanness to develop this sacred faith, Prema is the chief principle. People pray to God. Prayer does not mean merely begging from God. It means holding God close to the heart. We must forget the attitude of begging and strive for the attitude of holding Him close.
