In plain words
It is because the purity of the senses is so strong in damana that the chance arises for humanness to turn into divinity. Students must cultivate such sacred qualities. Only then will humanness arise in us. To sow the seeds of Prema in human society, make the flowers of forbearance bloom and give the fruits of Śānti to society: that is the influence of students. Where students are, they must foster an atmosphere of peace. But today it is the opposite. Wherever there is unrest, wherever there is turmoil, one understands that students are there. So, where students gather, where students are, they must foster an atmosphere of peace. To grant such intelligence, such feelings, such powers: that is the power of Vighneśvara.
Vighneśvara is called the god of learning. He is the one who grants buddhi and siddhi. Buddhi means a pure, spotless feeling. It is the faculty of weighing the lasting against the passing. In this world, what is Satya and what is Asatya? Every person, every object, every matter changes from moment to moment. No lasting object, no lasting person, no lasting matter is to be found by us in the world. Apart from the one principle of the Ātma, nothing is eternally true. It is just there that we must weigh the lasting against the passing. We must not in the least long to gain pleasures here or hereafter. Pleasure here is only momentary. All these are like passing clouds. That is why Śaṅkara said, “Mā kuru dhana bala yauvana garvaṃ, harati nimeṣāt kālassarvam.” All these pass away within a moment. Just as we think it is youth, old age is beginning. Just as we think it is childhood, youth is coming in. We are not trying to enjoy all these for as long as we suppose. In this world here, which changes from moment to moment like this, it is impossible to lead an eternally true life. Well then, if we say we will enjoy Ānanda at least in the world beyond, kṣīṇe puṇye martyalokaṃ viśanti. That too is not lasting. A man who stood for election goes to the Assembly for some five years only. As each year wears away and wears away, he is parted from the Assembly. In just the same way, we gain heaven only as long as the wealth of merit we have earned stays heaped up. The moment that merit wears away, we have to come back to the world of mortals. Pleasure here and pleasure hereafter: neither is permanent for us. They are not lasting. The principle beyond these two, the principle of the Ātma, is our rightful place. That is nirguṇaṃ nirañjanaṃ, sanātanaṃ, niketanaṃ, nitya śuddha buddha mukta nirmala svarūpiṇaṃ; that alone is eternal.
