In plain words
Nor by merely doing yajña. Nor by merely sitting down to dhyāna. You must curb the mind. You must strengthen faith. Without such faith, whatever kinds of good works you do, they are all in vain. With faith in the Ātma, however small the act you do, that very act becomes a mighty yajña. God always looks at the quality, never at the quantity. Even one drop of amṛta is holy. Here there is no need to ask whether it is a drop, a spoon or a tumbler. If you do even a small act with a pure heart and an unselfish feeling, it becomes a great yajña.
Embodiments of Prema! However many days you listen to discourses, you must inquire how far the mind in us has changed. Merely listening, being happy for as long as you listen, and then forgetting it the moment you leave here. This is not the right thing. It is not what a true devotee should do. When you put at least one or two things into practice, put away step by step at least some of your worldly feelings, and travel toward the supreme Principle, divinity blossoms in you of itself. Instead, it is because you strengthen worldly things day by day and increase worldly ties, and these desires go beyond all bounds, that humanness wanes and turns into mere animality. From humanness you must go on to divinity; you must not sink from humanness to animality. The root cause of all this is desires, desires. Desires have no end at all. At the very end Anil Kumar made a prayer. “Whatever You have given me, all of it is enough for me. If I have Your grace alone, that is enough. Only that,” he said. Whether it is there or not is a matter for later. That alone is what we should ask for. We must be content with what we have. We must not grieve over what we do not have. Even if what has gone is gone, we must regard that too as a tyāga.
What is the root cause of the unrest of man today? Neglect of what he has. Craving for what he has not. It is from this that unrest grows. He does not enjoy what he has. He neglects what he has. He struggles after what he has not. Say, what folly this is! Enjoy what you have. This he does not enjoy. What madness, to struggle after what you have not! However much you earn, however many offices you rule, all these will come to nothing one day. I said it only the other day.
