In plain words
… two were studying in Allahabad. Premchand and his wife set out by train to go to Nainital. Then they wrote a letter to the sons: 'We are going to Nainital for a rest; come to the station and meet us.' When the parents went there, on the given day at the given hour, the sons came and reached the station. The parents were very happy. The elder son said, 'Namaste, Mātājī; namaste, Pitājī.' The second son kept his hands in his pant pockets. He said, 'How are you, father? How are you, mummy?' Premchand was deeply hurt within. Well, they talked for a little while. Meanwhile they rang the bell. The train started. As this train moves off, the father is telling them, 'Study well; pass with good marks. Be good,' he said. The mother kissed them and said, 'Dear ones, study well; win a good name.' … slowly the train was moving away. This elder son stood with his hands joined, offering namaskāra. On the platform. The second son took out a handkerchief and was waving it like this. Premchand saw this. The train passed the station. He spread out his bed. He was very uneasy. He is telling his wife: 'Did you see? The little one did not offer me namaskāra.' Then she said: 'Poor thing, the little one just forgot; never mind,' she said. After some more time, he who had lain down got up again. Did you see? The little one did not offer me namaskāra! 'Enough, why worry; you … …, poor boy,' she said. After a little more time he said, 'Did you see? The younger son did not offer me namaskāra.' 'You are a poet, so your mind must be upset. What loss has come if he did not do it?' she said, rather firmly. Why brood so much over this small matter? 'Can you not forget it?' she said. Then he said, 'This is not a thing to be forgotten. It is not good for him. This pains me very much. I grieve this much because I want his future to be good. For if there is no humility in this boyhood, he will have to bow his head to everyone,' he said. Just as he said, after some time the elder son went to London and became Bar at Law. He became a judge in the Allahabad High Court. This second son, failing in everything, ended up as a clerk in this Allahabad High Court. Everyone goes to this judge and offers namaskāra. This clerk offers namaskāra to everyone who comes. To the son who bowed his head to his father, everyone bows their heads. The son who did not bow his head to his father bows his head to everyone. So students must first of all recognize this truth and honour their parents ….
