What is special about this? Man has eyes of skin. Worms and insects have eyes of skin. Beasts, birds and animals have eyes of skin. But what is man's distinction? Truly, if he does not develop the very eyes of Jñāna, then, having only these eyes of skin, he seems merely the equal of beasts, birds and animals. Human life is priceless. It is full of meaning. It is worth experiencing. If we want to make such a sacred human life fruitful, Ātmajñāna is essential. That is why: jantūnāṃ narajanma durlabham. It is rare indeed. Without Jñāna, he is no different from a beast. These eyes of skin can see only the outer, gross world; it is not possible for them to recognise the subtle divinity. No one can see his own eyes himself. Can you see your own eyes? No. Only by taking the help of some support can you see your eyes. Without a support, man cannot see his own eyes. When this gross eye cannot recognise even this gross body, how can it recognise the subtle Manas? When the eyes cannot recognise even this subtle Manas, how can they recognise the principle of the Ātma, the most subtle of all? So the eyes of skin are only for showing the world made of what is seen, for the ordinary life. Every man needs the eye of Jñāna. Call it the eye of Jñāna, the divine eye, the eye of the Ātma or the eye of Brahman: all these are only words for one another. So only when we believe in the feeling 'Sarvaṃ brahma' does the whole world take shape in the feeling of Brahman.
As the feeling, so the sight; as the colour, so Prakṛti. Only when we turn our vision into one filled with Jñāna does creation take shape as filled with Brahman. Whatever kind of glasses we put over our eyes of skin, the whole of Prakṛti looks that very colour.
All that is seen is bound to change. So this changing scene rests on Brahman, the steadiness that does not change. We set out in a car. Or we go off in a bus. The bus is moving. The road is not moving, is it? Taking the road that does not move as their support, the buses and cars that move make their journey. So for this world that moves, this world that changes, a divinity that does not move and does not change is the support.
