In plain words
Nothing goes along with us. Only two things come. Good. Bad. Whatever we do, that comes along with us. Do good and receive good. Whatever seeds we sow, those very fruits come.
Students! For the time being you pay it no heed. Some day in the future, plants are bound to come up from these. Sow seeds of thorns, or sow seeds of fruit: they come up as plants. Such faith is the faith of the people of Bhārata. Those who have faith in the fruit of karma are the people of Bhārata. So let goodness arise in your heart: I am the embodiment of the Ātma, my feeling is the nature of Brahman; is this a task fit for me to do, or unfit? Being the Ātma, it is not good for me to enter into these petty tasks that belong to what is not the Ātma. With this thought, in every task he must remember his divinity and enter into it. Only then does he keep far from faults. He keeps far from deceit. He enters into the longing for the Ātma. Inquiry of this kind is essential for students.
We are studying. We are taking great degrees. We go on to foreign countries and get still higher degrees. What do we earn by all this studying? Do we study all this to take up a job and accept bribes, to cheat, to tell lies, to fill our bellies? No. No. These studies, setting us on such impure paths! If you mean to cheat others and fill your belly, why these studies? So our learning is Ātmavidyā. Through it we must give the world a pure, exemplary being. He gave two hands to fill a belly a span wide. If you work with both hands to the full, if you work with hard effort, will the belly not be filled! We do not toil and work with our two hands. So we fall into these troubles. Karma alone is our goal. We must perform sacred karmas. We must perform karmas that set an example. We must perform karmas that help others. We must dedicate a fitting life to the uplift of the country. Our country is our motherland. Without the feeling for a mother, how could we live on in the world at all?
