In plain words
Only after that, God's work. That is why man cannot reach the joy he hopes for. Where did you come from? On what support do you live? By what Grace do you enjoy life in this world? Men are forgetting this.
That is why we may call Kauravas those who forget the principle of God and take refuge in this physical, worldly world. However much wealth and plenty the Kauravas had, what became of them in the end? All their kinsmen too went on helping the Kauravas. The mighty heroes, the brave and the dignified, all stood out as great men on the Kauravas' side. Kṛpācārya, Droṇācārya, Bhīṣmācārya, all such men of great intelligence, men of keen intellect too, were on the Kauravas' side. But the strength of their arms, the strength of their intellect and the strength of their weapons were of no use to them at all. The Pāṇḍavas relied on the strength of Dharma and the strength of God alone. That is why the Bhagavad Gītā says clearly that God comes near to us only when we take refuge in Dharma. He began the Bhagavad Gītā in Dharma, with "dharmakṣetre kurukṣetre." But at the very end He closed it in victory. Beginning in Dharma and ending in victory, He gave the experience of Ānanda. To Arjuna. For any task, however small, the Pāṇḍavas would keep the Paramātma before them and then enter into it. The Kauravas were not like that. They kept their own selfishness and self-interest in front and kept God behind. That is why troubles and losses of every kind kept befalling them. The Pāṇḍavas, who kept God in front, won victories in everything. Some troubles did come, but from those troubles there was no loss at all. Without hardship, happiness does not come to us. Kaṣṭe phalī. How should we recognise the svarūpa of the Pāṇḍavas and the division of the Kauravas? The Kauravas first of all put Ahaṅkāra in front, saying I. First I, next world, Last God. That is why, for them, everything was Lost. It was over. The Pāṇḍavas were not like that. First God. next world Last I. They put Ahaṅkāra at the very end. That is why they went on winning victory. We must push Ahaṅkāra to the back. We must not keep Ahaṅkāra in front. So all our sacred histories have gone on teaching, through many comparisons and the things compared, the ways to root out Ahaṅkāra.
