In plain words
All these belong only to costume; kindness alone is the true wealth, and when we earn such kindness, we are blessed. Merely by putting on vibhūti, merely by putting on kuṅkuma, merely by putting on nāmam marks, no one can be blessed. Not by merely growing beards is one blessed, not by merely turning rosaries is one blessed; the citta must be made pure.
Pure blood must flow in the body, and holy Bhakti in the citta
Students! Two things must be planted firmly in your hearts. As long as the blood in our body flows pure, so long our body stays healthy. In the same way, as long as pure Bhakti flows in us, we shall lack nothing at all of Ānanda. Pure blood must flow in the body; holy Bhakti must flow in the citta. Only when both are there is there purity of the body and purity of the Ātma. These two, at least, you must achieve. It is these that are the true learning. Develop these two, and then you may go on doing all the bhajans and good deeds you have to do. Students at this University must show forth one special ideal as well. How many crores of students are there not in this world! But you must not be like all of them. We must be our own ideal!
