The national spirit must grow well in students
Students! Today the national spirit is not to be seen at all in the system of education. People pursue education merely for the advancement of the individual in society. Simply because the national spirit has been lost, hatreds of many kinds are growing between man and man. So the national spirit must grow greatly in students. Just as boldly as you say, ‘This is my body’, so with self-confidence you must declare, ‘This is my country’. The country and the body are the object and its reflection. However much you develop love of the body, you must develop love of the country just as much. Only when love of the country is there do we become people who have developed their humanness. Science and Technology is like the head, said the President. But merely having a head is of no use. We must grow into a Spiritual heart. Spirituality, heart; Science and Technology, head; hand, Dharma. We must develop these 3H. EHV, they say, means Education in Human Values.
There is not much fruit in knowing; it lies in practising
Not EHV: 3H-heart, head and hand. That alone is true Education. Of this they said, the proper study of mankind is man. What does Mankind mean? Heart, head and hand. To make these three one: that alone is mankind. In the language of Vedānta they called this ‘trikaraṇaśuddhi’. Only when there is this trikaraṇaśuddhi does the attainment of Jñāna also come to us. Today we must develop the principle of Prema. The more people you love, the greater the Ānanda that comes to you. The fewer people you love, the smaller your Ānanda too will be. So if you wish to experience Ānanda, you must love that many more people. We must strengthen the faith, ‘The divinity in all is one.’
