Passage 13

In plain words

He told him. He did not listen. Hence all the troubles. The Godāvarī rises at Nāsik. Saying, “This is mine,” the people of Mahārāṣṭra have held on to it. The Tuṅgabhadrā rises in Karnataka. The Tuṅgā rises there. The Bhadrā here. The two join and become the Tuṅgabhadrā. So these two quarrel. In their quarrels, plenty of water flows away into the sea. Keep all that water in reserve. Let all the States be happy. Yesterday Gowda said, “For Swami I will give Tuṅgabhadrā water. I will not give it to the government,” he said. “Crazy fellow! Think how much the people are suffering,” I said. When the Tuṅgabhadrā is brought from there, three or four hundred villages in Karnataka come on the way. They asked that water be given to them. “We will certainly give it,” I said. So we can bring Tuṅgabhadrā water in this way. When we say we will do it this way, will there be anyone to say no! Sai's resolve is not a thing that stops because someone says no. They say in Telugu, “When the daughter-in-law says she will bear a son, will the mother-in-law forbid her?” Even if she says no, will she stop giving birth! Even if these people say no, even if the government says so, I will not stop. A pure resolve is always a pure resolve. This pure resolve is not a thing that changes or shifts. I have resolved to do it. I will do it for all of Rāyalasīma. Kaḍapa, Chittoor, Kurnool. Earlier Bellary was in it too. The British gave it the name backward class. b..Bellary, a..Anantapur, c..Kaḍapa, k..Kurnool; but it is not backward. We must make it an exemplary land. This is the land the Rāyas ruled. We must turn Rāyalasīma into a land of gems. Even if there is nothing else, if we make it possible for the people to have drinking water and for crops to grow, there is nothing more we need to do than that. I have still more resolves. In Karimnagar and in some parts of Telangana, people are suffering without water. Those people and these are all our own! We must see to it that no one has hardships. Above all, develop devotion to God. Without faith in God we cannot do anything. We must dedicate our life to these three: fear of sin, love of God, and morality in society. Hoping that you will make fine progress, become exemplary men and become exemplary citizens, and blessing you, I bring My talk to a close.

Young men, embodiments of Prema! I hope that, not content with today's meeting alone, we will look to the growth of this organisation in the future, and that you will carry out fitting publicity and teaching and show the world a true example. Above all, consult among yourselves, form a committee of suitable people and register it, start the committee to bring the village folk of our Andhra land onto the right path, persuading them rightly in matters of health or of the spirit, and let some take on the needed responsibility; you are young men, and you may not have much income. For all the expenses that come to you on behalf of your committee, I will put in some lakhs. I hope that you will carry out fitting publicity and teaching, bring not only Rāyalasīma but all of Andhra Pradesh into a sound state, take part in service so that no unrest of any kind happens anywhere, earn a fitting good name and become exemplary people. Consult today; tomorrow is Śivarātri; if you give Me your members, I will consult them once, and I am ready to give fitting help for the arrangements and for the work to be done next. I need nothing. All of you prosper, and you offer the prayer, “May all people be happy.” I hope that, along with the prayer, you will receive joy in practice too, give it to others, and be happy yourselves.
