In plain words
It is no greatness that you earn money. To give peace to the country is greatness. To quench the unrest in the country is greatness. The excitement in the country must be turned to peace. That is the work students must do today. But today such students are creating fearful scenes. That is not right. You are students; you must go on seeking the welfare of society and wishing for the peace of the world. Only when you become such students, only when you grow into such young men, will the country have not merely peace: Praśānti will come. First of all, you yourselves become peaceful. When there is peace in the home, peace comes to the street. When there is peace in the street, peace comes to the village. When there is peace in the village, peace comes to the district. Only when there is peace in the district does peace come to the state. There is no peace in your own home. How can you send it out into the street? First of all, all in the home, the four brothers, mothers and children, elder and younger sisters, must live together in unity. Many people read the newspaper. Many teachings appear, news appears.
Unity is strength
First of all, unity must be achieved. How is unity to be achieved? There is nothing that cannot be achieved by unity. When the five fingers come together, any work at all can be done. A father had five sons. To those five: ‘My sons! After I die, all of you must stay united and guard the family's name,’ the father told them. ‘Father! We shall stay united till we die and keep up the family name,’ they promised. Very well, the father kept that in his mind. One day a man came carrying a bundle of firewood. The father leaned the bundle of firewood against the wall, paid him and sent him away. He called each son: ‘My son! Break this bundle of sticks and let us see how strong you are,’ he said.
