Passage 3

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

But they would not put it into practice. They knew well what Satya is. But they spoke nothing but untruth. One who knows and yet ignores it, and practises principles he does not know, is a fool. To ignore divinity and follow the ways of the world is folly itself. Today such folly has grown great. So divine feelings must arise in man today. God is beyond the guṇas.

What is God? The Prema that is in all is God. LOVE IS GOD. Prema is in all. Just as the Paramātma makes His Prema manifest, so must every man make manifest the principle of Prema that is in him. Prema is supremely worthy of worship. Endless is this Prema. Beyond all measure is this Prema. We must regard such a principle as the principle of God. However strong you may be, however great your power of mind, however rich, you cannot buy Prema by way of trade. It is simply not a thing to let out on hire, nor a thing to take on hire. It is not a thing to borrow, nor a thing to lend. Prema is everywhere, whole and full. Today they keep bringing this Prema into the field of trade. So we must receive such Prema with Prema. That is the chief goal of man. Today people acquire many kinds of learning. They earn many powers. They hold many high offices. But that is not it. We must earn the worthiness to receive sacred Prema. To teach us this supreme principle, the Vedas grew into many branches and sub-branches and went on teaching men. What is the principle of Prema? Prema has no form. But to experience, this principle of Prema has every form. Whatever form it takes on, that form it becomes. You may ask anyone what form the air has. Air has no form. But air is there. Without air you yourself would not be. Then how can you settle its form? Pump it into a football, and the air takes the shape of a football. Put it into a balloon, and it takes the shape of the balloon. In the same way, into whatever person this form of Prema enters, the principle of Prema takes on that form. Second, water: what form has water? Water has no form. Whatever vessel you pour it into, it takes on that form. Only through form has the principle of Prema been shown. But man today sees only the vessel, and does not recognise its meaning at all.
