In plain words
Giving up such bad habits, giving such bad habits no chance, they must enter into the work of the home or the work of society and so make their education worthwhile. How far this drinking goes. First man drinks wine next wine drinks the wine. Next wine drinks man. In the end the wine swallows the man himself. Not recognising this truth, imagining themselves to be clever, they go down such wrong paths. They imagine they are somehow helping their friends. What is it? Saying thanks to the one who came to play cards with them. Saying thanks to those who took bottles with them at the table. You can think out well for yourselves how uneducated this is. It is not the natural mark of education.
When we are in a village, when someone helps us, when someone speaks to us, we say thanks. When our handkerchief falls to the ground and someone picks it up and hands it to us, we say thanks. For the water supplied to our house we pay a water tax. If current is supplied to our house, we pay a tax for it called the electricity charge. If we build a house on land we have bought, we pay house tax to the corporation. And what are the gifts of grace that God bestows? When we switch on the fan, we pay a charge for the current. When God gives us the cool southern breeze, what tax do we pay? For the sun shining in all its splendour and giving light to the world, what tax do we offer the sun? When the heavy rain pours down and the brooks run and fill the tanks and give water wherever you look, what tax do we give God for it? We pay tax on small, trifling things. Everything God bestows is free. Air free, water free, light free: God gives everything free. The earth is nothing but God's gift. All the five elements are none other than forms of God. Enjoying what is God's, what tax do we pay to God? Does any man, any educated man, ever inquire into this? For things that are transient, impermanent and Asatya we pay so much tax and express ever so much gratitude.
