Passage 6

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Then Manas prays to the Lord of all. Until then it does not think of the Lord of all. "When trouble comes, Veṅkaṭaramaṇa!": only when hardships befall it does Manas keep thinking of God. When does this worry come to us? Only when we forget Satya do all these worries come.

Follow Satya, and you can win victory in everything. Victory chooses Satya alone. It does not choose anything else. Strength of arm, strength of intellect, strength of numbers: whatever there may be, it does not yield to it at all. Satya yields to nothing. Satya, too, chooses victory alone. There is nothing else in the world that conquers Satya. Satyameva jayate. There is nothing other than this that wins victory. What is, is one alone, yet the learned have proclaimed it in many ways. If you follow Satya, Satyameva jayate. It achieves with ease even the hardest of problems. There is nothing in the world that Satya cannot achieve. It achieves anything at all. It makes the earth the sky. It makes the sky the earth. So you must take refuge in Satya alone. Satya alone is God. If we forget Satya, there is no life at all. Today in the world, through forgetting Satya, people fall into many sorrows, many losses, many pains. However great the power we take up, victory does not come to us. In power there is no Satya at all. However much you study, there is no Satya at all in these studies. What is the reason? These are all worldly learning. These are worldly actions. These are all marks of pravṛtti. Satya is the path of nivṛtti. Satya is the principle of nivṛtti. It is a form that is ever Satya. Only when we achieve such Satya do we become those who have achieved victory.

Students! Whatever circumstances come for us to face, we must face them and try to win through in Satya. In any circumstances at all, we must set ourselves to keep the word we have given. Once we have given our word, we must keep up Satya as long as Life lasts. Vāmana came. He asked for a gift. He promised he would give it. But his own guru, Śukrācārya, told him not to give.
