In plain words
‘Loko bhinnaruciḥ’: according to their tastes they show off their cleverness and waste their time. Meanwhile, day by day, the closeness between Venkusā and Bābā kept growing. One day all the boys made a plan. Now is the right time. They made a plan to kill this boy. ‘Not until then will Venkusā show us any affection,’ they thought. There was a hut; they went there and sat down. They laid a Master plan. They took a brick, and a strong student threw it. It looked as though it would come straight at Bābā's head. Venkusā had Prema for Bābā. At once, by his own power, he turned the brick towards himself. How? He came and stood in front of Bābā. What should have struck Bābā's head struck Venkusā's head! At once the blood began to flow. Then Bābā tore the cloth He was wearing and tied it round the guru's head. While the guru and the disciple, the two of them, were looking at this blood and talking, those two boys came running, carrying a corpse. Whose corpse was it? The very one who threw the brick to strike Bābā had died on the spot. ‘Harm no one, man; you will come to harm,’ they said. ‘As much as you revile others, the fruit of sin comes to you, and never leaves you; others are not others, sir, they are the Paramātma!’ With ‘Guruji! Forgive our fault,’ they laid the boy's corpse at the guru's feet. Then Venkusā said: ‘My children! I have grown old. This boy alone is my all: so I love Him. Where there is pure Prema, that very Prema protects you; no one else can protect you.’ When they heard this word, they laid the dead boy at Bābā's feet. Bābā burst out laughing. Why did He laugh? Not out of joy that the one who planned to kill us had died himself. ‘They set the limit at a hundred years, but do not trust that word in your heart.’ They say a hundred years. You must not trust this. ‘In a town, in a forest, or in the midst of the waters: no one knows when it will be cast off. In childhood, or in youth, or in ripe age, or in old age: no one knows when it will be cast off. All this is the nature of the body’: so He laughed, in jest.
