In plain words

In this human state, bound up with such fears, such attachments, such passions, such Ahaṅkāra, what happiness is there to be had? Even if some is had, that too is only a joy mixed with fear! Nowhere in life does fearlessness appear. Where is fearlessness? Where there is Vairāgya, there is fearlessness. Where are we to come by that Vairāgya? Only in the presence of God is Vairāgya found. So Śaṅkara went on teaching: ‘O men! Drive this fear far from you, and to gain fearlessness, reach the presence of the Ātma.’ Only when we go there does this truth called fear become clear to us.

Pratyakṣa, parokṣa and anumāna: all three have one root!

Pleasure and pain, sin and merit, gain and loss, darkness and light: each of these is only the absence of the other! These are not apart, not different from one another. Their root is one alone, and that is the Ātma. With that Ātma as their basis, many things go on arising. This is a flower. In it there are ever so many petals. These petals appear separate. But all the petals have sprung from one place. This very place is the seat of the Ātma. From this seat of the Ātma alone do all the petals go on arising. But putting them all together, we take it to be one flower. The flower is one; the petals are separate. For all these petals the seat is one! In the boundless ocean countless waves rise up. Yet no wave is like another. No wave looks like another. The waves are many.
