In plain words

From the past tree came the present seed. From the present seed comes the future tree. seed is very very very important. In the present you must be duly careful. Do not think of the future at all. If we are good in the present, the future will automatically be good. So if you worry about the future, psychologically nothing but sorrow truly comes of it. Do not worry at all. Why must you worry? what is the shape of worry? it is mentally created fear only. This worry has no form at all. It is your creation. Give no room to such a thing. Living in this way, always be happy. ‘How can we, Swami! At home there are many tangles, we have many troubles, there are sorrows in family life. How can we be happy at all?’ they say. If you worry, do your problems go away? They are not going away. So what is the use of worrying? So be happy. Happiness puts your worry far away. But if you stay worried, it becomes plus plus. Whatever comes, this is God's prasāda; troubles too are God's prasāda! pleasure is an interval between two pains. Happiness lies right between two troubles. Without troubles we do not know the value of happiness. Without darkness, the brightness of light is not known. So troubles too are nothing but prasāda. They give quinine to one who has malaria fever. It is bitter, but only when you drink it with an effort is the malaria fever cured. If you want even medicine to be sweet, the disease is not cured. Trouble too brings happiness. You must always be joyful. Only then will your life give joy and an ideal.

Young women and young men! Give no room at all in your heart to bodily matters, to matters of the future or to family matters. You must give room in the heart to One alone. You must give it to God alone. All art is outside. Heart is inside. All art has come only from inside. So, first of all, look to the heart. Do not look at art. reflection of the innerbeing. If you are joyful inside, nothing but joy comes outside. Why? God is right beside me. We must strengthen the faith that He dwells in the heart itself. Only then will fitting zeal and encouragement keep growing.

Troubles and losses are nothing but moving clouds

Some may even mock you. ‘Hey! You have studied so much. You were born and grew up in town. You have enjoyed the town atmosphere. Why do you go about like villagers, saying God, bhajan? All this is the modern age. You must not think about God and the divine.’ There are some atheists, after all. So they say. What must you think of? You must think of a ghost. No, no. You must think of God. Your faith must stay deep. ‘Sir! Whom are you telling? You are telling me. Who is it you say is not there? You are saying God is not there. For you He is not, but for me He is. Who are you to say my God is not there? If He is not there for you, so be it. For me He is. I think of my God.’ Only when you face them with such courage will your courage and daring grow. Otherwise, if someone says that what you have does not exist, why must you believe it? If someone comes and says, ‘You have no mother’, you must not weep that you have no mother. He is simply naive. Just as you say boldly, ‘My mother is at home’, in the same way, ‘I have God. My God is in my heart’: so you must set about arguing it with him boldly. You must draw them in with you. But you must not go in with them. If you follow him, you will become a slave. Everyone must become your slave. For you are with divinity. To those who are with divinity, the whole world comes close. You must develop such courage and daring. You must not sit weeping because someone came and said something. This weeping comes naturally to women. They, they are washerless taps. The eyes keep running with water all the time. That too is not good. We must stop it. For what must we give tears? Spiritually, there are certain meanings. Nayana means the eyes; nāra means water. You must shed streams of tears for Nārāyaṇa, but you must not let tears fall for anything else. Troubles and losses of one kind or another keep coming. They are all passing clouds, passing clouds. There are no permanent clouds in the world.
