Passage 6

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Yet in doing good to others itself there is …; work done for the sake of others reaches the Paramātma Himself. But he can no longer take on this responsibility. Today I have especially to speak to you about the chariot. Believe it or not, I do not like such things. Pure Prema alone is what is dear to God. “Love is God. Live in love”. Prema itself is the Paramātma. So you should offer Me Prema alone; why bring these golden palanquins and chariots and load a burden on My head?! I never ask for such things. Instead, with this expense, you could do any amount of service in society. To God, wherever you go, pure Prema alone is dear. Do not give such things anywhere. That which looks for such things is not divinity. When God Himself is the form of all, what is this offering something specially to God?! Who are you to offer anything at all?! Everything is God's. So from now on do not bring such ornaments, thrones or chariots. With this money give water to people in places where there is no water.

“You are Mine; I am yours”

From ancient times it has been our Bhāratīya tradition to give education and medical care free. That is why I give education and medical care to the people entirely free. To this day not a single naya paisa is taken for anything. Tuition fees, library fees, laboratory fees, games fees, examination fees: we take none of them. Nowhere in the world is it like this. In the hospital too, however much it costs, we give everything free. All of you are My own! What is so special about My giving to My own?! When you bring clothes for your son, do you advertise it? In the same way I give to My own. All are My own. I am yours. Our giving and taking is nothing other than Prema for Prema. Heart to heart, love to love! Whatever Subrahmaṇya Chettiar may think, if someone pays a fitting sum and takes this chariot, I will give water to some more villages with that money. Subrahmaṇya Chettiar brought this chariot with great Prema. He had one single desire. “Swami's chariot festival must take place before my eyes. After that, whether I live or die, so be it,” he had resolved. So steady was the mind he had. It was only for his sake that I rode the chariot today; otherwise I would not so much as touch it. I have never had such desires. Nor should they be in you. What should exist between God and the devotee is an inner bond, not an outer one. You must develop that inner bond; you must foster pure Prema; you must do selfless deeds. You must foster love of God, fear of sin and morality in society. Following this path, may you become worthy of God's grace through Bhakti and surrender: hoping for this and blessing you, I bring My long discourse to a close.
