Passage 3

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

So long as there is attachment to the body, he goes on believing that Saccidānanda is something other than himself. One must recognise the truth of who “I” is. So long as there is the feeling “I am the body”, I am the form, I am a man, I am a jīva, man keeps making many efforts for this Sat Cit Ānanda. The man who has recognised the truth of this “I” does not believe that Saccidānanda is separate. He himself is the embodiment of Sat Cit Ānanda. Every individual too is the embodiment of Sat Cit Ānanda. Sat is God. Cit is the jīva. The oneness of these two is Ānanda.

The mind's effect on health

Every human being must recognise one thing. Many illnesses befall the body of man today. Every man believes only in the illnesses that come to the body. But not all illnesses belong to the body. We can cure the illnesses that belong to this body with medicines. But it is illnesses born of the mind that abound in the world today. These saṅkalpas and vikalpas reach the mind, and through the mind they turn every atom, every cell in this body diseased. The root cause of man's illnesses is the mind itself. This mind is bound by this body. The body is an upādhi of the mind. The whole relation of these upādhis is negative. So long as one follows this negative nature, one gains no Ānanda at all. In man's mind there are not only illnesses. Certain chemical substances also arise. In one's body certain bad qualities, bad thoughts and bad counsels arise. Good feelings, good conduct and good thoughts arise. Only when he makes these saṅkalpas travel as right saṅkalpas can man gain good health. The more thoughts man entertains, the more illnesses he falls prey to. These saṅkalpas and vikalpas alone are the root cause of illness.
