In plain words

Instead of this, making sweets and eating them because Viṣu has come, or the like. We must not use the new year only to make sweets and eat them on a new year. What then? Ānanda must be there always. For this, Viṣu need not come. The new year need not come. We go on eating every day. This is a new year for eating. When a new feeling arises within your heart, you must eat the food of the new year.

From rising from sleep until you go back to sleep, enjoying things for the belly without limit or measure, what have you achieved? From the time you rise at dawn until you lie down at night, you are eating. Is this the aim of life? what is the purpose of life? Not ‘eat, drink, sleep, die’. The work we came for is something else. We must restrain the senses as well. We must set worldly things on the sacred path. For that purpose He gave you worldly things. How small these seeing eyes are, tell me: not even half an inch! With these eyes, not even half an inch, you are able to see stars crores of miles away. Where did these small eyes get this power from? That itself is the power of God.

Recognise that God is always with you

There is a torchlight. Even if it has a new switch, a new bulb, all these, will the light come? No. What is the reason? You must put in new batteries. When you put in batteries, the light comes. So our body is a new torch. But the eyes are the new bulb. Our Buddhi is the new switch. But the batteries called new thoughts are not there. These very batteries called new thoughts are the new years; with the sacred feelings called Viṣu, fill your heart. Then you need only switch it on, and the light comes. As long as the body, the torch, lasts, keep hold of it and take it along with you; that is God. Always: God is in you, with you, above you, below you, around you. So the principle of God is right behind us, right beside us, right in our home, right in our eye.
