Passage 14

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

But devotees cannot recognise this well.

Recognise that whatever God does, He does out of Prema alone

For although God is only one, at times He has to act in many different ways. You all know: last night there was heavy rain. These raindrops are just water. Then hailstones fell. Those hailstones too are just water. But rain does not strike a blow, whereas hailstones strike. If hailstones hit you, you get hurt. If water hits you, you do not get hurt. In just the same way, whether God scolds or strikes with Prema, all of it is nothing but God's Prema. When He strikes, it feels as though He were striking with a lump of ice. But inside that lump of ice too there is only water. We must recognise the truth that there too there is only Prema. Whatever God does, He does it with Prema alone; He cannot act in any way apart from Prema. Let Him give hardship, let Him give sorrow, let Him make you worry; though He puts you to many kinds of test, all of it is out of Prema alone. So we must not worry in the least. Worrying is our own fault. For we are a part of God. Such a part has no sorrow. It has no troubles. It has no hardships. So we must grow the faith that says, I am a part of God. So we must not fall prey to any kind of trouble. Facing all this, we must strive to attain Prema.

Recognise the oneness within the many

Each one has some feeling dear to him that he likes, but that liking is one and the same in all of them. One says he wants a laḍḍu. One says he wants barfī. Another says he wants a jilebi. This is only the tongue's craving; the sugar in all of them is one and the same. So each one's sādhana runs along its own kind of path.
