In plain words
But they are not all gurus. They are all teachers. There is one Guru alone, and He Himself is God. Many gurus come and, on this Guru Pūrṇimā day, have guru-pūjās performed to themselves, take guru-dakṣiṇās and start businesses. “Guru” means: the syllable gu is He who is beyond the guṇas; the syllable ru is He who is without form. He who is without form, He who is beyond the guṇas, is God alone. Gu means Ajñāna. Ru means its removal. Only the one who roots out Ajñāna is the guru. People only go on making their desires grow still more, and Ajñāna does not leave. The gurus too, in just this way, are turning into gurus who lead men astray. In the worldly kinds of learning there are gurus in plenty. On every path, moral, physical, dhārmic, there are gurus. Among all of them business has begun. Today, in the Kali age, spirituality too has taken the shape of a business. The day spirituality fell into business, it was no longer spirituality at all. In spirituality there must be no business whatever. We must recognise the difference there is between worldly Prema and spiritual Prema. Worldly Prema is ready only to take. But divine Prema is ready to give. Always it gives, it gives, and nothing else. This alone is true divinity. This alone is true holiness. This alone is the path that runs against the material. Entering this material path, people are wasting their lives in every way. This is nothing but the path of pravṛtti. We must enter the path of nivṛtti. You may do all your worldly work; there is nothing wrong in it. But whatever karmas you perform, you must do them with the feeling, “Every karma is for the pleasure of God.” Do your job, study, seek a high position: whatever you do, you must regard all of it as God's prasāda. Only then does one become someone who has experienced true humanness. What is a man? Good conduct, good thoughts, good character: the oneness of these three alone is true humanness. So we must never let go of Satya. We must keep Prema flowing without a break. But what is the root cause of the people of today losing their health?
