In plain words

only one who practises these is learned. Only then will students follow him. Only such learned people should be teachers. The good he does the world cannot be put into words. How great it is! One who harms the world is no teacher at all. Only one who brings the world its welfare is a teacher. A teacher has many responsibilities. He must also have the mind to set these responsibilities on the right path. You all know that fifty years ago, so that this swarājya might come, many people, from children to elders, went through great pains, hardships, losses and sorrows, lost their property and possessions, and undertook many sacrifices. But what does Independence mean? Depend means to rely on. Independent means to be without relying on others. But is the world living up to that name? We should not be under the rule of others at all. We must live as free people: so we hoped. But fifty years have gone by since this Independence came. Though it is fifty years since we won freedom, day by day we are becoming dependent on others. They have taken loans of thousands of crores of rupees. Now they are in debt to the people of every country. What right do debtors like these have to call themselves free? Of the two, A and B, only when A does not depend on B is he independent. Today every Bhāratīya is falling into many hardships. Money is needed, that is true. But to borrow in order to get this money! This is not the right path. We must cut down our expenses as far as we can. We must cut down our restless cravings and our show as far as we can. Only then can we save money. With this money we can carry on any amount of governing. But they swell their pomp, sink into pleasures of many kinds, bring money from foreign lands and waste it in their own country. How can this be independent? So this is not independence. This is not the right state. This is nothing but dependence. But Bhāratīyas, still unable to know the right principle, go on taking loans, and so they are becoming debtors to them all over again.
