In plain words
What kind of students are needed today? They must turn into ideal citizens. We must live in our villages themselves. Our culture survives, more or less, there alone. So we must nurture that culture. But today's students in the villages are leaving the villages and setting off for the towns. Going to the towns, what are they doing? They are living with nothing but bad habits, bad company and evil minds. No fear of sin, no love of God is to be seen at all. When these two are absent, how can society's morality come about? If you keep just the one thing, fear of sin, in your mind, love of God will come to you. If you install love of God in your heart, fear of sin will come to you. So first of all, grow your love of God. Through that love of God you can achieve any task, however great, with ease. You all know there was Churchill. He was England's Prime Minister. He did not study at all. He went on working in the military. In that phase he went on winning great victories. If you ask our people to go and join the military, they say, ‘Are you trying to kill us?’ Protecting the country is necessary. You must want the country's welfare. So, in the past, Kennedy, a president of America, also joined the military and worked as a pilot. Not only that. Many other great people joined the military and laboured to protect their country. In developing our society, we need not hesitate over whether a thing is small or big. You go merely after quantity, but quality is what we need. Why quantity? Today all the bigwigs are ruling the kingdoms. And ruling, what are they doing? They are making the country poor. Rather than the sin of making it poor like that, it is greatness to do service to society with no job at all. “Jananī janmabhūmiśca svargādapi garīyasi.” We must protect our mother and our motherland. After Rāvaṇa died, Vibhīṣaṇa took hold of Rāma's feet: ‘Lord! I did not hope to become king. I hoped to rid my elder brother of his bad qualities. You alone are king of all this. So You Yourself be king of this Laṅkā,’ he said. All the rākṣasas came. All of them prayed that Rāma Himself should become king.
