Embodiments of Prema!

As long as there is Ahaṅkāra in a man, even his own children, even the wife he has married, do not love him. Resting merely on the Dharma of Nature, resting on worldly life, they only act as though they honour you, as though they love you; they cannot love you with a Prema that comes from the heart. As long as there is anger, man cannot escape grief. It is anger itself that brings man sorrow. As long as there are desires, your wishes are not fulfilled in the least. On the day you root out this greed, lust, anger and Ahaṅkāra, on that very day others will love you, your sorrows will be rooted out, your desires will be fulfilled, and Ānanda will come to you. The root cause of all man's sorrows, of all his troubles, of all his unrest, is Ahaṅkāra, anger, moha and greed. It is these four qualities that plunge man into unrest. But if you inquire what man does his sādhanas for, people think they do them for happiness, or for Ānanda, or for Śānti. These sādhanas give man nothing at all: not Ānanda, not contentment, not sorrow, not trouble. Only when you bring under your control the place from which this Ānanda and this sorrow arise will both this Ānanda and this sorrow be rooted out for you.
