Passage 5

In plain words

This conscience in every person, from foot to head, is one. The Ātma that is in you, that same Ātma is in all. In the same way, the Ātma that is in all, that Ātma is in you yourself. To recognise this truth and act on it is the very goal of spirituality.

Your svarūpa, your Ānanda, your conduct: all is full of the Ātma

But man today, through attachment to the body, forgets his own svarūpa and nature and thinks of the unity as many. Though what is, is one, he sees it as many. That itself is Ajñāna. To show what is in diversity as one is the spiritual principle. It is to make us recognise just that principle that the Avatāras have kept coming down. ‘My dear ones! None of you is set apart. All of you live in unity. “Mamātmā sarvabhūtāntarātmā.” My Ātma alone is reflected in all of you. All these bodies are like mirrors. Where did this mirror come from? This mirror came from clay itself. These mirrors are only forms of this clay. As long as you look at these reflections, all is the form of clay. So only when you take up the principle of the conqueror of death does immortality come to you. You must strive well to recognise the divinity that is in such unity. All the mirrors are made of clay. You must turn this body of clay into a body of Consciousness. To turn it into Consciousness you need do no other sādhanas. This Consciousness is right there in the clay. It is a great mistake to think that perhaps we cannot achieve it, because we have failed to achieve it by effort. Your svarūpa itself is the svarūpa of the Ātma. Your Ānanda itself is the Ānanda of the Ātma. Your conduct itself is the conduct of the Ātma. All is full of the Ātma. But you are not making the effort that is needed to recognise the principle of Satya. There is fire. When you use fire in the right way, the fire stays fire. But when you neglect it, this fire dies down and ash covers it. But when you blow on it, the ash goes and the fire is seen. In the same way, in every man the fire whose form is the Ātma keeps on burning. Because you neglect it now and then, ash is born from the fire and covers it over.
