Passage 5

In plain words

You must light that lamp of Prema within you; you must become full of Prema. Only when you develop this one thing, Prema, can you experience Ānanda in the turīya state, beyond waking, dream and deep sleep.

The true vigil

Today we are celebrating the holy day of Śivarātri. We pass ever so many nights, do we not? Then why should this night alone be given the special name Śivarātri? The mind has sixteen kalās. On this day fifteen kalās merge and only one kalā remains. So if you remember the Name of God with all your heart through this whole night, that one remaining kalā too merges in God. Many people, wanting to keep vigil on Śivarātri, go to three or four films; or else they sit up all night playing cards. How can that be a vigil? Śivarātri means the auspicious night. This auspicious night you must spend with the auspicious Name alone. You must remember the Name of God with all your heart, with Prema. You must remember from the Source, not by Force. Today many keep vigil somehow, under force, but not with all their heart. There is no use in a vigil like that. To remember God with all your heart for even half a minute is enough. A ladleful of the good cow's milk is enough; what is a potful of donkey's milk worth? God is fond of the inner feeling, not of outward show.

The prātibhāsika principle

First of all you must enter from the physical Annamaya kośa into the Prāṇamaya kośa, and from the Prāṇamaya kośa into the Manomaya kośa. The Prāṇamaya they called Vibration. The principle that pervades everywhere: that is the Manomaya kośa. That is why they said, ‘Manomūla midaṃ jagat’. Without the mind we cannot do any work. The mind can go to America in a moment. It can travel any distance further still. Man has death, but the mind has no death. However many births one takes, the mind keeps coming along. Fourth is the Vijñānamaya kośa.
