The Three Wishes Easwaramma Asked For

The very same thing happened in a matter concerning this body too. One day, as I was having My meal upstairs, ‘Gṛham Ammāyi’ (the mother of this body) came up. “What brings you here like this, Mother?” I asked. “Have Your meal; I will tell You afterwards,” she said. After the meal she told Me: “Swami! Ours is a very small village. There are no medical facilities here, and the people suffer greatly. When little babies get a fever, people have to pick them up and run to Bukkapatnam,” she said. Then I said I would build a hospital in this village, and first of all I had a small one built.

Another day she came up: “Swami! You must not take it amiss. I have one more wish, and You must fulfil it,” she said. “So your wishes are growing too?” I said, feigning a little anger. “Swami! You fulfil the wishes of so many thousands! Then why should You not fulfil my wish alone?” she said. “All right, what is your wish?” I asked. “Swami! The people of our village are struggling with the scarcity of water. Have a small well dug,” she said. Then I had a small well dug right inside our Mandir. All the village people would come here and carry the water away. Easwaramma: “Swami! I am very happy. But one more wish remains in me,” she said. “What is it?” I asked. “The children of our village have to walk to Bukkapatnam for their studies. Poor things, they cannot walk that far, and they suffer greatly. So have a school built in our village,” she asked. As she wished, I had a school built. Easwaramma was very happy.

Just as a small seed grows into a great tree, that same small school built in those days has today grown into a great university. That same small hospital built in those days has now grown into a great super speciality hospital. I, who had a small well dug in those days, have today laid taps for the whole of the district and given it good water. When resolves are noble, they are sure to be fulfilled. If you resolve on any good work, it will surely come about. To doubt, saying, “The money it needs is not there, the strength is not there,” is a great weakness.
