In plain words
A foolish bird once entered a hall of mirrors. Seeing its own form reflected in the mirrors all around it, it flew into a rage, thinking they might be its enemies, that they might hurt it, and struck at the mirrors again and again until they broke to pieces. But into however many pieces they broke, that many reflections began to appear in them. At that the bird grew more enraged still. This is the power of ignorance. If a man of wisdom enters that same hall of mirrors, he rejoices, ‘All that appears around me is only my own reflection, is it not!’ He rids himself of the faults within him. The one who recognises the truth ‘All are reflections’ and lives by it is the true human being. In names and forms and in powers you may see difference; but to recognise the truth that ‘you and I’ are one is true Jñāna. God is not set apart in a temple, a mosque or a dargah. He is in you yourselves. When you go to a dargah, you are beholding the very divinity that is in you. Even when you go to a temple, you are beholding none other than yourselves. Whatever sādhanas you do, they are only so that you may recognise the truth that is in you!
All Creation Is One; the Difference Lies in the Vision
Every human being has birth and death. Between the two lies life. That wanes and waxes. But humanness neither grows nor wanes. The body grows, but he himself does not grow or wane. When a person was small they called him ‘child’; in youth they called him ‘man’. In old age they called him ‘grandfather’. So the form keeps changing, but the person is one and the same, is he not! The names and forms we see may differ, but the divine power is one! If you recognise this truth and love all, you yourselves will be transformed into God. When you recognise, ‘The divinity in all is one’, you will have no differences whatever. Failing to recognise it is a fault in your vision, not a fault in creation. Without correcting the fault in your vision, you go looking for faults in creation. In God's creation there is no fault whatever. Everything exists as oneness. The difference lies only in your vision.
For Those with Self-Confidence, Victory in Everything!
Self-confidence is most necessary for every human being. Whatever task you enter upon with self-confidence, you will surely win success. Lincoln was born into a very poor family in America. His father did carpentry work. His mother stitched old clothes and with the money that came from it went on bringing up the boy. This boy went to school together with the children of rich men. They all made fun of him at the sight of his dress. One day little Lincoln came to his mother in tears: “Mother! My companions are insulting me. Get good clothes stitched for me,” he said. Then his mother drew him close: “My dear son! First of all, recognise the state of our family. We are very poor. We have no food even to eat; how can we manage to wear fine clothes? You must follow a course that suits our state. However much others jeer at you, pay no heed. Live with self-confidence. Some day you will rise,” she taught him. From then on Lincoln built up his self-confidence. He studied hard. He held that self-confidence was his protection. Though he had no money, gold, goods or vehicles, he had in full and plenty the wealth called self-confidence. After some time his mother died.
