In plain words
So build a village school; the children can make at least some progress,” she said. As his mother wished, Vidyasagar built a small school in the village. Some time later, to his mother: “Mother! I have built a small school, as you asked. If you have any other wish, tell me,” he said. Then she: “My son! In our village, if anyone gets a cough, a cold or a fever, there is nobody to give them so much as a little medicine. So build a small hospital,” she asked. As his mother wished, he built a hospital too.
The three wishes Easwaramma asked for
Easwaramma too asked for wishes of the same kind. In the days when Sai's glory was gradually spreading, one day she: “Swami! There is not even one small school in our village, and the children have a great deal of trouble. When I see little children walking to Bukkapatnam to study, my heart melts. So please have a small school built in our village,” she asked. As she wished, I had a school built. Then: “Swami! In our village, if any small child gets a fever, we have to go to Bukkapatnam for treatment. When I see mothers carrying those children all that way on foot, it pains me very much. So please build a small hospital here,” she asked. I had a hospital built as well. That same small school has today become a university. That same small hospital of those days has today grown into a big super speciality hospital.
This came about only by the joining of the two, the mother's true resolve and Sai's eternal resolve. At the very last, before she gave up her life, she asked for one more wish. “Swami! The people of our village are suffering badly for want of water. As they struggle to draw water up from the deep well, their arms are worn to pieces. So please provide water too,” she asked. I provided water as the conditions of the time allowed, and satisfied her. Now I have taken up a water supply project and am giving water to the whole district.
