In plain words
Leaving aside the Śānti inside your heart, you go looking for it somewhere in the outer world. Search where we may in the outer world, Śānti will not come to us. Wherever you go, unrest, unrest, nothing but unrest. The Śānti you long for is right with you. Forgetting today the divinity within you, which is the very form of Śānti, you long for a Śānti seen outside, unsteady and transient. So give up this brooding. Try to contemplate Śānti, your own true form. Whatever you long for is within you alone. No object is seen outside that lies beyond you. Open your eyes, and so many thousands appear before you. But close your eyes, and not one appears. As long as these eyes of flesh remain, all these keep appearing. The moment these eyes of flesh are gone, no object appears to us. Close the eyes or open them, the thing seen is one alone; that alone is divinity. This divinity undergoes no change of any kind. It has no birth and death at all. You yourself are that principle, eternal and true. Try to recognise this truth.
Prema alone is our true form.
Embodiments of Prema! What is our truth? Prema alone is our truth. Were it not for this very Prema, nothing in the world would show itself to us. This Prema alone is our true form. So, having such a form of Prema, we hanker after things that are not dear and are tormented. Embodiments of Prema! While we live, what is it we long for? Prema alone. While we live, what is it we experience? Prema alone. What we experience, what we enjoy, what we pine for, is Prema alone. Nothing in the world is lasting except Prema. Keeping that eternal and true principle of Prema within ourselves, you search with effort for something. Above all, we must consider what our true form is. Prema alone is our true form. “Sarvarūpadharaṃ śāntaṃ, sarvanāmadharaṃ śivaṃ.” That alone is the principle of Prema. The Prema in all is one and the same. You look at the other person and hate him. You look at your own and love him. This is the very fault in you.
