Passage 8

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

There is no lifting a foot. This is not the right moment for anything. At last, unable to do anything, she stood stock-still and stayed quiet. In each country, in each region, languages are like that.

Students! To know the meaning of the Upaniṣads, you must go only to great souls who have studied the Upaniṣads, and learn their inner meaning. The essence of all the Upaniṣads comes from the Brahma principle itself. This Brahma principle is the very form of speech. The principle of the mind itself is the Viṣṇu principle. The Viṣṇu principle is full of good feeling. When there are good feelings alone, good words alone keep coming. When good words come, good meanings alone keep coming. Brahmā, Viṣṇu and Maheśvara: the three are not separate. The oneness of the three, Ātma, mind and speech, is the principle of Brahmā, Viṣṇu and Maheśvara.

The whole principle of the body is contained in the essence of the Upaniṣads

Embodiments of Prema! As I go on telling you things in this way, you will find it a little hard. The reason is that those who do not know the meaning, those who have not seen the Upaniṣads, those who cannot recognise the essence of the Upaniṣads, draw many perverse meanings from it. So we must recite the Upaniṣads very calmly, with presence of mind, in a pure atmosphere, with purity of speech. Our breath too must become pure. For this they have given a kind of mantra in the Upaniṣads. Through this mantra many kinds of diseases are cured. By it, first of all, our breath becomes pure. Not only that: by reciting that mantra the thick blood that flows to the heart becomes a little thinner. Because of that the circulation of the blood goes on without any obstruction. A cataract that has formed in the eyes melts away. The sound that comes forth from the throat also becomes pure. If we take the essence of the Upaniṣads alone, it becomes possible to recognise the whole principle of the body. How does our tongue taste? Whatever kind of substance we take, that very taste becomes known. On our tongue there are thousands of taste buds. In the eyes there are lakhs of rays of light.
