In plain words

Many sannyāsīs lived in it. The dwellers of that āśrama gave chapātīs free to everyone who came. Among them was a sannyāsī who lived a life of great holiness. In the same town lived a seṭh. He was very old. Tempting a very poor man with money, he married that man's daughter, who was much younger than himself. “My father has ruined my life like this,” the girl would weep all the time. Unable to bear that grief, one day she jumped into the Gaṅgā and took her own life. On the eleventh day after she died, he arranged a ritual feast. On that occasion he sent a śrāddha meal to every āśrama. But in the āśrama where this pure-hearted sannyāsī lived there was one custom. When given this much money, they would cook for themselves and eat. That day they cooked in the āśrama with the money the seṭh gave. Everyone ate that food. That night this sannyāsī, who followed the path of Satya, could not sleep and was greatly troubled. In a dream a girl kept appearing to him. “What is this? I have never had such thoughts! There are no cravings for the objects of the senses in me! Why does such a dream come to me?” and he grieved deeply. Even when he sat in dhyāna, the same scene began to appear to him. The next day he went to a guru named Saccidānanda and told him of the dream that kept coming to him. “Svāmī! Why does this scene appear to me?” he asked. That guru: “My son, do not worry about anything. I will look into it,” he said, and sent for the seṭh. He found out how the seṭh's wife had died. Then he called the sannyāsī and made known to him what had happened. “My son, because you ate at that feast, the man's wife, who took her own life by force, has been appearing to you. This is the cause of the bad dream that keeps coming to you,” he explained. From that day on the sannyāsī gave up even meals; he passed his time taking milk and fruit. If the body is to stay alive, one must eat something, must one not! “Food from alms is for the protection of the body.” Even a new car has to be filled with petrol, does it not! Without petrol the car will not run. In the same way, to look after the body one must take some food. The sannyāsī did not see that scene again.
