In plain words
Only when you respect your parents, your teachers and your guests will people respect you. If you do not respect elders, no one will give you respect. You must give respect and receive it. Precisely because our ancients kept such sacred customs, the whole world has been able to stand firm for so long. ‘The people of Bhārata are rich in humility, they have faith in God, they have sacred customs. The culture of Bhārata is supremely excellent’: recognising this, the whole world honours Bhārata. But today the people of Bhārata themselves cannot understand what Bhārata is. ‘Enna bhārate tanna bhārata’: what is not in Bhārata is nowhere else in the world. What does ‘Bhārata’ mean? Only those who worship God with bhāva, rāga and tāla are the people of Bhārata. If there is bhāva but no rāga, it is of no use. If there are rāga and tāla but no bhāva, it is of no use. These three must become one. You must honour the sacred culture of Bhārata, follow it and spread it in a fitting way. This is the true mark of the educated.
