In plain words
Dharmaja went into the midst of the people: ‘All of you, be brave. In no situation give room to fear and alarm. Kṛṣṇa Paramātma is always with us. Kṛṣṇa Paramātma alone is present everywhere. All this is nothing but Kṛṣṇa's play. The plays of God are strange and wondrous. One cannot say they are like this or like that. He does not make anything known to us of His own accord. We ourselves must come to know it, by effort. God, as the Ātma, pervades everywhere. Though He is in everything, He is not seen by us,’ he said. Hearing Dharmaja's words, all the people took heart.
On the second day Parīkṣit called all the vassal kings together. ‘This boy has not courage enough. That is why he is bringing all the kings here,’ the people thought. All the kings came and sat down. Parīkṣit, turning to them as he spoke: ‘Kings! I bow to you all. Apart from bowing, I know nothing. I am a boy, a child with no experience whatever. I need your help. I to you and you to me: we must give one another help and cooperation,’ he told them, and then said, ‘Let me know what you intend.’ Then the vassals: ‘Great King! Be our leader. We will give you our help and cooperation in every way,’ they said. Together they looked over the state and course of the kingdom, and each went back to where he had come from.
Meanwhile some enemy kings joined together and marched against Parīkṣit. War broke out. Then all the vassal kings together stood as Parīkṣit's backbone. Parīkṣit took good heart. He was Arjuna's grandson, after all! ‘Arjuna, Phalguna, Pārtha, Kirīṭi, Savyasāci, Śvetavāhana, Bhībhatsa, Vijaya, Kṛṣṇa, Dhanuñjaya’: so he called his grandfather to mind, and fought. As he prayed in this way, Arjuna stood visibly before him: ‘My son! Do not lose heart. All five of us are right with you.
