Passage 3

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

We must come to know well the Satya that is in the human body and go on developing it. The root cause of the sufferings and hardships people undergo today is nothing but the forgetting of Satya! By following untruth, man meets with humiliation and earns ill fame. ‘Satya’ is a very small word, but it carries a mighty inner meaning. ‘Sat’ means that which is eternal, that which has no change. Precisely because we try to change such Satya, change is arising in us too.

God's word alone is Satya

Students! If from this tender age itself you go on practising Satya, you will surely become an example to the nation itself. What, really, is Satya? God's word alone is Satya. So when every word you speak is spoken in the spirit of ‘everything for the pleasure of God’, that very word takes shape as Satya. Every feeling that arises from our heart, too, is a reflection of Satya. But by the time it reaches the tongue, we turn it into untruth. Through these very senses we undergo so much change. The senses alone are the cause of our sins and merits. Satya, Dharma, Śānti, Prema, Ahiṃsā: these are the human values. Satya shows the way. Dharma follows it. When Prema is experienced, Ahiṃsā comes about. Violence means beating someone, abusing, hurting … It is not only this much. Your not following your own word is also violence. First of all, set your speech on the proper path. There is no Ahiṃsā greater than that.

Because you make things up, impurity enters you

You must say what is, just as it is. You must not add the least invention to it. Because you invent, impurity enters into you. The root cause of your heart becoming impure is nothing but your altering Satya. If you want to rid yourselves of impurity, you must go on speaking sacred Satya.
