Passage 5

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

So many people come to Swami. Are we sending invitations to anyone? No, no, we are not sending invitations to anyone. ‘So many people are coming to Swami! Swami is gaining a great name!’: out of the envy that says this, some try to spoil Swami's name. If you like, tell them too to gather this many people around themselves, and let us see. That is impossible! Even ten people will not gather around such people. What is the reason? That goodness is not in them. Goodness itself is divinity. That very goodness draws everyone to itself.

Embodiments of Prema! Do not spoil your Prema; do not hide it away. Keep on making your Prema grow. Only then will your mind become pure. Your humanness will be fulfilled. Only then will you be called human beings. Otherwise you will turn into demons. Do not be deceived by listening to what others say. Keep safe in your mind what you have heard here. Establish divinity in your heart.

Embodiments of Prema! Perhaps you are hurt that I am speaking so harshly. You should be glad of it, and not hurt by it in the least. Divinity cannot be seen by anyone. It is not something that shows itself and ‘advertises’ itself. Look in any paper you like. In each paper you find some advertisement or other. They ‘advertise’ nothing but false things. There is no telling how low their minds have sunk. This is sheer folly. If they were truly human, they would not ‘advertise’ such false things. If they have so much interest, they should come in person, see, and experience the Ānanda. To print in the paper, without discrimination, whatever they happen to have heard is a great mistake. Readers too must recognise this Satya and act on it. When you go on living by Satya, there will not be a single one in this world who can conquer you or punish you. Hold to Satya. Your own Satya is your witness.

The mind is witness to the mind; the guṇa is witness to the body; foolishness is witness to the fool; Swami is witness to all.

We must not become a ‘fool’. We must become flowers offered to God. It is not good that we, who should offer the flower of the heart to God, act against it and turn into ‘fools’.

Students! There are many more things still to be told in the days ahead. I raise all these things to set you right. Prema, Prema, Prema! Hold on to Prema alone; that is enough. You must not fix that Prema on everything. You must let it flow towards God alone. Only then will you do well. Otherwise, however much you study, what is the use? All of today's ‘education’ is leading to ‘agitation’. To put this state of things right, there must be not only ‘education’ but ‘Educare’ too. ‘Education’ comes to us from books. ‘Educare’ springs from our heart. So we must take up ‘Educare’. ‘Educare’ means: we must draw forth from our heart the human qualities, Satya, Dharma, Śānti, Prema and the rest. Worldly ‘education’ is got from the book. The book is like the nose. But ‘Educare’ is like the breath. Without breath, there is no life at all. In the same way, without ‘Educare’ humanness cannot survive.

Students, embodiments of the divine Ātma! You are all very good children! Children like gold! But you must not be like 14-carat gold. You must be like 24-carat gold. You must not lower your worth in the least. If you are like that, I will help all of you a great deal. I will help you in everything, financially and spiritually. Become good children. Earn a good name. (Swami called an American student and a Russian student of the Higher Secondary School onto the dais and had them recite the Namaka, the Camaka and the Śrī Sūkta.)

This boy is from America. That boy is from Russia. See what harmony the two have come to.
