Passage 3

In plain words

From it, pure Prema springs forth. When Prema springs forth in us, then we have no enemies at all. In fact, we must not regard anyone as an enemy. We must try to live with Prema towards all. Prema alone is the path to the world's peace. Today everyone says, ‘Peace, Peace’, but there is ‘peace’ nowhere; everything is ‘pieces, pieces’! They are breaking everything into bits. They are breaking up even the country. When you go abroad and someone asks you, “Where have you come from?”, you must answer with a broad outlook, “I have come from India.” You must not, out of a narrow outlook, go on reciting the name of your village, the name of your district and all the rest. We must live with broad feelings. To have such feelings is great good fortune.

When we develop broad feelings in ourselves, broad feelings grow in the children too. As the parents are, so the children turn out. So if the children are to be good and to make progress, the parents must first of all follow the right path; otherwise, once they reach a certain age, the children will not listen to the parents' word. If the children are not as they should be, that is the fault of the parents themselves! There must not be differences of opinion between the parents. Both must be as one; both together must say the same thing. If the mother says one thing and the father says another, that is not good.

You must first of all teach the children to follow Satya. If there is Satya alone, that is enough; it alone is the support of all. “There is no Dharma higher than Satya.” From Satya, Dharma is born. From Dharma, Śānti is born. From Śānti, Prema is born. Then all live peacefully, practising Ahiṃsā. So if we want peace for the country, we must follow Satya. What is Satya? ‘Manassyekaṃ vacassyekaṃ karmaṇyekaṃ mahātmanāṃ.’ If you keep one thing in the mind, say another in words and do yet another in action, that becomes untruth.
