In plain words

Otherwise you cannot work. So I alone am great,” it said. The little finger: “I may be small, but when someone is to be punished, when someone is to be taught a lesson, I myself stand in front as commander of the army. So I alone am great,” it said. Then the ring finger, smiling: “People put gold rings set with diamonds and cat's-eyes on me alone. So I am king over all of you,” it said. As they all argued like this, the thumb laughed aloud: “Without me none of you can do any work. So let us all work together,” it said.

Today the country needs unity above all!

Theists, atheists, theist-atheists, atheist-theists, all must become one. That is just what we need now. Today Bhārata needs nothing but unity! We have Prema, we have Satya, we have Dharma, we have justice; but we have no unity. Only because there is no unity do we live in such division. Saying to one another, ‘Your sorrows are my sorrows!’, we must come together and live in unity. Today, in the home, there is nothing but discord between father and son! Nothing but discord between husband and wife! Is it not only when they stay together that the two of them are happy? Some differences of opinion may come up. But they do not stay for ever; they come and they go. Why should we fight so much, clinging to these ‘passing clouds’! We should not give them any weight at all.

Though I am doing so much work now, I am not asking anyone for anything. In Madras I gave water to a crore of people, to every house. Not only for drinking; I gave water for the crops as well. In the East Godavari and West Godavari districts, those living in the hill areas had no drinking water, and now I have brought Godavari water to all of them. I had the water pumped from below up to the top. On the way I had it purified. In this way, My aim is to do some good or other to every single one. Now I am helping the people of Muddenahalli too. I have seen with My eyes the hardships of the Muddenahalli children.
