Brothers all,
That restlessness of mind in Tulsi and Khoka: it means they have no work. Niranjan's too: it means he has no work. Go from village to village, go from house to house; do good to people, work for the welfare of the world. Go to hell yourself, but let others have mukti; to blazes with my own mukti! Whenever you think about yourself, Tulsi, that very moment the mind grows restless. What do you want with peace, my dear fellow? You have made tyāga of everything; now make tyāga of this wish for peace, this wish for mukti too, there's a good boy. Don't hold on to a single worry. Hell, heaven, bhakti or mukti, don't care about any of it, and go handing out the Name from house to house, will you, my dear fellow. Your own good comes only through the good of others; your own mukti and your own bhakti, too, come through the mukti and bhakti of others. So throw yourselves into it, be carried away by it, go mad with it. As Thakur loved you, as I love you, let me see you love the world just so.
1. We are sannyāsins: bhakti, bhukti, mukti, we have made tyāga of all of it.
2. To do good to the world, to do good to everyone down to the caṇḍāla: this is our vrata, whether it brings us mukti or brings us hell.
3. Ramakrishna Paramahamsa came for the good of the world. Call him man, or call him God, or call him Avatāra; take him each in your own way.
4. Whoever offers namaskāra to him will turn to gold that very instant. Take this message from house to house, will you, my dear fellow, and the restlessness will go. Don't be afraid: where is there room for fear? You want nothing, after all. All this while you have spread his name and your own character all around, and well done. Now get organised and spread it. The Lord is with you; there is nothing to fear.
Whether I die or live, whether I come home or not, you spread it, spread prema. Put Gupta to this work too. But remember, to kill others you need shield and sword. ‘Sannimitte varaṁ tyāgo vināśe niyate sati’: when death is certain in any case, it is better to make tyāga of the body for a good cause. That is all.
PS. Remember my earlier letter: we want both women and men; in the Ātman there is no difference of woman and man. It is not enough to call him an Avatāra; there must be a showing forth of śakti. We want thousands upon thousands of men, and women, who will spread like fire from the Himalayas to Kanyakumari, from the North Pole to the South Pole, all over the world. No child's play; there is no time for child's play. Those who want to play at children's games, clear off now, while there's still time, or great trouble will come on them. We want organisation. Drive out laziness; spread, spread; go like fire everywhere. Don't count on me; whether I die or live, you spread, spread. That is all.
Narendra.
